Spanish football legend Andrés Iniesta is set to begin his managerial career after agreeing to become the new head coach of Dubai-based side Gulf United.

According to multiple reports, all terms between Iniesta and the UAE club have been agreed, with official signatures expected to follow soon. The former FC Barcelona captain will take charge of the ambitious Dubai outfit in what will be his first job as a professional football manager.

Iniesta, widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, retired from professional football in 2024 after a successful career that saw him play for Barcelona, Vissel Kobe, and Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup winner has spent recent years working on his coaching education and has previously participated in FIFA coaching seminars in Dubai, hinting at his growing interest in management.

Founded in 2019, Gulf United has quickly risen through the UAE football system and is known for its focus on youth development and international partnerships. The club has also previously hosted Iniesta during training sessions and football events in Dubai.

Iniesta’s appointment is expected to attract major attention to Gulf United and UAE football, as the Spanish icon begins a new chapter on the touchline after an illustrious playing career filled with domestic and international success.
