Brighton Humble Arsenal 3-0 to End Gunners’ Perfect Premier League Start

Brighton & Hove Albion produced a commanding performance at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, beating Premier League champions Arsenal 3-0 to hand Mikel Arteta’s side their first league defeat of the 2026/27 season.

Arsenal arrived on the south coast having won their opening four Premier League matches, but Brighton quickly disrupted the visitors’ rhythm and took control of the contest.

Pascal Groß opened the scoring in the 31st minute, giving Brighton a deserved lead after a strong opening spell. Charalampos Kostoulas then doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time, leaving Arsenal facing a difficult task after the break.

The Gunners struggled to respond after the interval, with Brighton maintaining pressure and limiting Arsenal’s opportunities. Chema Andrés added a third goal in the 57th minute, heading home from a corner to complete a memorable afternoon for the hosts.

The defeat ended Arsenal’s 100 per cent Premier League record after four consecutive victories and marked their first league loss of the campaign.

Arsenal’s defeat was also their first by three goals in the league since December 2023, while Brighton moved to third place with 10 points from their opening five matches, according to the latest table.

For Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler, the victory capped an impressive period for his team, coming shortly after their comeback win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

The result leaves Arsenal with 12 points from five matches, while Brighton’s emphatic victory strengthens their position among the early Premier League contenders.
