Kuwait Faces Missile, Drone Attack as Fragile Iran War Ceasefire Comes Under Pressure

Kuwait said Thursday that it faced a fresh missile and drone attack, raising new fears that the already fragile ceasefire surrounding the ongoing Iran conflict could be collapsing.

According to reports from multiple international media outlets, Kuwait’s military confirmed that air defense systems were activated after incoming missiles and drones were detected. Authorities, however, did not immediately disclose the exact locations targeted or whether casualties were recorded.

The latest escalation comes shortly after renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran. Reports indicate that U.S. forces carried out strikes against Iranian drone operations near the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran claimed it retaliated by targeting a U.S. military facility in the region.

The attack has further shaken hopes of maintaining a ceasefire that had already been under pressure from repeated violations and retaliatory actions across the Gulf. Kuwait has remained one of the countries repeatedly exposed to spillover attacks since the start of the Iran war, with previous strikes targeting airports, military bases, and strategic infrastructure.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for Thursday’s attack, though Kuwait has previously accused Iran-backed militias and Iranian forces of carrying out similar operations during the conflict.

The renewed tensions have also rattled global markets, with oil prices rising sharply amid fears that instability around the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt global energy supplies. Analysts warn that any prolonged escalation in the Gulf could have severe economic consequences worldwide.

Regional and international diplomats continue efforts to prevent the conflict from spiraling further, but the latest developments suggest the ceasefire remains highly unstable.
