At least one person has been killed and two others injured following a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Volgograd region, according to regional governor Andrey Bocharov, as cross-border strikes between Moscow and Kyiv continue to intensify.

Bocharov said Russian air defense systems responded to what he described as a “massive drone assault” overnight, with falling debris and explosions reportedly causing damage to civilian infrastructure in the region.

Authorities confirmed that one person died during the attack while two others sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment. Reports indicate fires also broke out in parts of the region following the drone strikes.

Russian officials have accused Ukraine of increasingly targeting infrastructure deep inside Russian territory, particularly regions linked to oil refining, transport, and military logistics.

The Volgograd region, located in southern Russia, has become an increasingly frequent target of long-range Ukrainian drone operations due to its strategic industrial and energy facilities.

Ukraine has not officially commented on the latest incident, consistent with its usual approach to strikes inside Russian territory.

Kyiv has repeatedly argued that attacks on Russian military and energy infrastructure are aimed at weakening Moscow’s ability to sustain its war efforts.

The latest attack comes amid a broader escalation in drone warfare between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides reporting civilian casualties and infrastructure damage from overnight strikes.

Military analysts say drone attacks have increasingly become a central feature of the conflict, allowing both countries to strike targets far beyond the front lines.

The overnight attacks also reportedly disrupted transport operations in some areas, with temporary security measures imposed as Russian authorities assessed the scale of the damage.
