N210 Trillion Probe: Kyari Reacts, Says Senate Arrest Warrant “Deeply Shocking”

Former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited), Mele Kyari, has reacted to the Senate Public Accounts Committee’s decision to issue an arrest warrant against him over an ongoing N210 trillion financial probe, describing the move as “deeply shocking.”

Kyari, in a formal response addressed to the committee, insisted that he did not evade the Senate’s invitation, explaining that he had earlier notified lawmakers of his inability to appear due to medical treatment abroad.

According to him, he had informed the committee in a letter dated May 11, 2026, that he was receiving medical care outside Nigeria and would honour the invitation upon his return.

He added that he also offered to respond to any urgent inquiries in writing through his legal representatives while undergoing treatment.

Kyari firmly rejected claims that he ignored or deliberately avoided the committee’s summons, stating that no fresh invitation was received before the arrest warrant was issued.

He further explained that his current medical condition made it impossible for him to appear physically before the panel at this time, stressing that he remains willing to cooperate fully with the investigation.

The former NNPCL chief urged the committee to channel further questions or clarifications through his legal team to ensure timely responses while he continues treatment abroad.

The Senate Public Accounts Committee had earlier issued an arrest warrant against Kyari in connection with its ongoing investigation into alleged discrepancies involving N210 trillion in NNPC-related financial records.
