Russian Strike on Zaporizhzhia Kills One, Injures Seven, Ukrainian Officials Say
Russian forces launched an attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, killing at least one person and injuring seven others, according to Ukrainian officials.
Authorities said the strike triggered multiple fires across the city, including in a residential building and a shopping center. Emergency services were deployed to extinguish the blazes and search affected areas for additional victims.
Local officials reported that an educational institution was also damaged during the attack, adding to concerns about the continued impact of the war on civilian infrastructure. Images released by emergency responders showed firefighters battling flames and crews assessing damage to buildings struck during the assault.
Regional authorities stated that the injured were receiving medical treatment, while rescue operations continued in several locations affected by the attack. The full extent of the damage was still being assessed.
Zaporizhzhia, a key industrial center in southeastern Ukraine, has frequently come under missile and drone attacks since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The city remains an important logistical hub and has been the target of repeated strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian officials condemned the latest attack, accusing Russia of targeting civilian areas. Moscow has consistently denied deliberately targeting civilians, maintaining that its military operations are directed at strategic and military objectives.
The strike comes as fighting continues across multiple regions of Ukraine, with both sides reporting ongoing drone, missile, and artillery attacks. International organizations have repeatedly expressed concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict and the toll on civilian populations.
Emergency crews remained on the scene following the attack, while local authorities urged residents to remain vigilant amid continuing air raid threats.
