A family reportedly abducted in Igboho, Oyo State, has regained freedom amid growing public attention following a two-hour ultimatum issued by Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Reports from the community on Sunday indicated that the victims, said to include a pregnant woman, her children and a sibling, were released by their captors, sparking celebrations among residents.

Videos circulating on social media showed crowds of residents singing, dancing and rejoicing as the family returned to the community.

The development came hours after Igboho issued a warning over recurring cases of kidnapping and insecurity in the area. In a widely circulated video, the activist expressed concern over recent abductions and alleged killings linked to criminal activities in the community.

He reportedly accused suspected criminal elements of worsening insecurity and demanded the immediate release of kidnapped victims, giving what he described as a two-hour ultimatum.

“I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing will happen,” Igboho was heard saying in the video.

While residents have linked the victims’ release to the ultimatum, authorities have yet to officially confirm whether there is any connection between Igboho’s intervention and the family’s freedom. Details of how the victims regained their freedom also remain unclear.

The incident comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Oyo State, following recent kidnappings, including the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. In recent weeks, Igboho has repeatedly claimed to possess information about individuals allegedly involved in kidnapping activities in the state and has called for stronger action against criminal networks.

As of press time, neither the Oyo State Police Command nor the state government had issued an official statement on the reported release of the victims.

Residents have nevertheless welcomed the development, expressing relief over the safe return of the family and calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
