Tinubu Mourns Former Finance Minister Abubakar Alhaji, Condoles Sultanate, Sokoto Government

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Minister of Finance and elder statesman, Abubakar Alhaji, who passed away at the age of 85.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the late Sardauna of Sokoto as an outstanding public servant whose distinguished career spanned decades as a permanent secretary, federal minister and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

The President said Alhaji’s contributions to public administration, economic management and diplomacy left an enduring legacy on Nigeria’s political and economic development.

He described the late statesman as “a titan of public service, a consummate bureaucrat and a patriot” whose intellectual depth, fiscal discipline and diplomatic skill made a lasting impact on the nation.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultanate Council and the Sokoto royal family over the passing of the distinguished prince.

He also sympathised with the Government and people of Sokoto State, as well as the late Alhaji’s associates, protégés and admirers across the country.

The President prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
