Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday held a closed-door meeting with former Kano State Governor and national political figure, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Kano.

The meeting, which was conducted away from the media and the public, has fuelled fresh speculation over ongoing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Although the details of the discussions were not disclosed, sources familiar with the meeting said it formed part of a series of engagements among key political stakeholders amid shifting alliances across the country.

Neither Obasanjo nor Kwankwaso addressed journalists after the meeting, leaving the purpose and outcome of their talks open to speculation.

The two politicians remain influential figures in Nigeria’s political landscape. Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s president from 1999 to 2007, continues to play an active role in national affairs through consultations and interventions on governance issues.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, also commands a significant political following, particularly in northern Nigeria.

The meeting comes at a time of increased political realignments and consultations among opposition leaders and other major political actors as preparations gradually gather momentum for the 2027 elections.

However, in the absence of an official statement from either camp, the agenda of the Kano meeting remains unknown.
