Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Mother, Deaconess Angel, Reportedly Dies At 88

Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, mother of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder of Christ Embassy, has reportedly died at the age of 88.

Deaconess Oyakhilome, fondly known as “Big Mummy”, was said to have died on Friday, September 25, 2026, according to reports from Edo State.

Esan News Magazine, a local publication, broke the news, citing information from a prominent member of the Ekagholo family of Idunwele, Ewu, in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

The publication described her as the matriarch of the Oyakhilome family and mourned her death as a significant loss to Ewu Kingdom and the wider Esan community.

It said Deaconess Oyakhilome was remembered for her faith, humility, family values and commitment to prayer, adding that she had raised children who had become prominent figures and sources of pride to the community.

“Big Mummy was not just the mother of Pastor Chris. She was the mother of all,” the publication said in its tribute.

The report further described her as a “virtuous woman” and “prayer warrior” whose counsel and influence extended beyond her immediate family.

The Ekagholo family, Idunwele community and Ewu Kingdom were said to have joined the Oyakhilome family in mourning the reported death.

However, the report has not been officially confirmed by Christ Embassy or the Oyakhilome family as of Saturday afternoon.

A senior official of Christ Embassy contacted over the report said he was aware of the news but could not independently confirm it.

“I have heard the news, too, but it is not for me to confirm her death,” the official said.

He added that he would make the necessary contacts and expressed the expectation that an official statement would be released if the report was confirmed.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is the founder and president of Christ Embassy, also known as LoveWorld, a Christian ministry with a large international following.

The reported death of his mother has continued to attract attention, with members of the church and the wider community awaiting official confirmation from the family or the ministry.
