The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Cosmopolitan University are set to formalise a strategic partnership aimed at advancing climate-smart innovations, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital solutions to tackle climate challenges and enhance livelihoods.

The partnership was discussed on Monday when the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, received the Vice Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Prof. Carl Adams, and members of the university’s management on a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters.

Speaking during the meeting, Anosike said both institutions share a common vision of translating scientific research into practical solutions that benefit society.

He highlighted NiMet’s achievements in producing research and meteorological information to support national development, while commending Cosmopolitan University for embracing emerging technologies, particularly AI, to build climate-ready and climate-resilient communities.

According to him, stronger collaboration between academia and public institutions is essential for driving innovation and addressing the impacts of climate change.

In his remarks, Adams reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing the next generation of indigenous AI experts and developing climate-smart innovations powered by satellite technology and artificial intelligence.

He said the institution remains focused on harnessing technology to strengthen climate resilience and support sustainable development across critical sectors.

Both organisations agreed to formalise their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will provide a framework for joint initiatives in climate-smart and digital agriculture for smallholder farmers, aviation research, staff exchange programmes, data analytics, AI applications, and the use of meteorological information to improve productivity and livelihoods.

The Vice Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the university’s Pro-Chancellor and other senior management officials.
