The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has called on the Federal Government to approve a new national minimum wage of ₦300,000, citing the rising cost of living and worsening economic hardship facing workers.

The demand was made in a statement issued in Abuja by the Forum’s National Coordinator, Andrew Emelieze, who urged the government to urgently address pending salary-related obligations owed to federal workers.

According to the Forum, the Federal Government should immediately pay the outstanding two-month wage award owed to workers since June 2024, as well as the arrears of the 40 per cent peculiar allowance.

The group also called for the full implementation of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage, including the payment of all outstanding salary arrears arising from its implementation.

The workers maintained that improving employees’ welfare is essential to enhancing productivity and cushioning the impact of inflation and the rising cost of living.

The Forum urged the Federal Government to engage constructively with labour representatives and address the outstanding issues without further delay, stressing that prompt action would help restore workers’ confidence and improve industrial harmony.
