Three Arraigned Over Adimike Godwin’s Death, Face Same-Sex Union Charges

Three suspects have been arraigned before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in connection with the alleged murder of an Abuja resident, Adimike Godwin, following the conclusion of a police investigation.

The FCT Police Command said the suspects  Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade  were charged after an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi.

According to the police, five persons, including the deceased’s driver and gateman, were initially arrested during the investigation. However, only the three suspects were charged after the probe was concluded.

The defendants appeared before FCT High Court 13 on a four-count charge bordering on alleged criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide, and offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

Police said all three defendants were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide over the death of Adimike Godwin.

 

In addition, prosecutors charged Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony separately with allegedly entering into a same-sex civil union, while Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade face a separate joint charge of allegedly entering into a same-sex civil union, contrary to the provisions of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

The court adjourned the matter until September 30, 2026, for further proceedings and ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending the hearing.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command remains committed to ensuring justice for victims of crime while respecting the constitutional rights of all persons throughout the judicial process.

The charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by the court.
