Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has fulfilled his pledge to support veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu by paying N25 million directly to the hospital where she is receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

The payment was confirmed on Thursday by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Justice Okey Martins, popularly known as J Martins. He announced that the funds were transferred before the close of work on Wednesday.

“Yesterday before the close of work, His Excellency @alexottiofr, our pragmatic leader, made good his promise, directing a 25M payment to the hospital’s account where our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs Ngozi Nwosu is receiving treatment,” J Martins wrote on his official X handle.

The 62-year-old actress, who hails from Abia State, had made an emotional appeal for financial help in a video that went viral.

She disclosed that she had been hospitalised for three weeks and urgently needed N30 million to undergo three life-saving surgeries.

“My people, my fans and my family, I know that you’ve not seen me in circulation for some time. I’ve been hospitalised now for three weeks. Please, the thing has gone beyond my control. I need your help. Don’t let me die. I know that you people never forsake me,” she pleaded.

J Martins expressed gratitude to the governor for the compassionate gesture, adding that the payment covers a substantial portion but still represents only the first phase of support for the veteran actress.

“We thank you immensely for your support and kindness of heart, sir. History will be kind to you,” he added.

She became a household name through memorable performances in television dramas and blockbuster films, including the popular sitcom “Fuji House of Commotion.”

This is not the first time the actress has faced a major health battle, having undergone extensive medical treatment for a serious kidney-related illness in 2012.

Supporters have continued to call on well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations to assist with the remaining medical expenses.
