Sokoto Govt Orders Probe Into Mosque Attack, Warns Against Religious Provocation

The Sokoto State Government has ordered a full investigation into the attack and killing at Musa Lukuwa Jumu’at Mosque in Mabera, following recent religious tensions in parts of the state capital.

The government also announced the immediate closure of the mosque, which it described as a crime scene, pending the completion of investigations into the incident.

In a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, on Tuesday, the government dissociated itself from anyone, regardless of status, who uses religion as a pretext to undermine or disrespect Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his parents, household and companions.

The government reaffirmed its respect and obedience to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), while urging residents to continue to demonstrate love, respect and compassion towards the Prophet.

To address the underlying causes of the recent tensions, the state government said it had constituted a committee of Islamic scholars to examine both the immediate and remote causes of the crisis and advise the government on appropriate measures to prevent further escalation.

It also appealed to residents to refrain from inflammatory and inciting statements capable of threatening the peaceful coexistence for which Sokoto is known.

The government assured residents of its commitment to protecting the lives and property of all citizens and maintaining peace across the state.
