Tinubu Chairs First FEC Meeting In Two Months As Re-election Campaign Begins
President Bola Tinubu is presiding over a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, the first since August 19.
The meeting is attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, cabinet members and other senior government officials.
Tinubu travelled to Europe in August for his annual leave and returned to Nigeria on September 29.
The meeting comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Tinubu’s re-election campaign getting underway.
The President has indicated that he will prioritise governance rather than embark on extensive nationwide tours for political rallies.
At its last meeting on August 19, the Council considered 50 memoranda and approved additional funding sources for the student loan scheme.
The Council also approved a proposal to decriminalise attempted suicide, subject to legislative action.
In addition, it directed a forensic investigation into government procedures following findings by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that a purported government agency did not exist.
