The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare has confirmed the evacuation of Nigeria’s first imported Ebola virus disease case to Switzerland, saying the patient departed Abuja earlier on Monday with his approval.

In a statement posted on his personal X handle, the minister said the patient’s clinical condition had improved significantly before the evacuation.

He described the patient as stable, conscious and able to communicate, adding that her clinical laboratory test results were approaching baseline levels.

However, he cautioned that the improvement did not mean she was no longer infectious, stressing that strict protocols were maintained during the evacuation.

The minister disclosed that the patient was accompanied by her spouse, who had remained asymptomatic.

He commended the clinical personnel who provided care for the patient, as well as public health workers who coordinated the evacuation in line with established public health measures.

“We will provide further updates later this afternoon after the patient and her spouse lands successfully in their destination,” he said.

The minister added that public health measures remained in place to ensure the successful containment of the imported virus.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and rely on information from credible sources as health authorities continued efforts to contain the infection.
