Nollywood Mourns Actor CJay Nwoks As Death Halts New Film Release

Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of actor Chijioke Nwokafor, popularly known as CJay Nwoks.

The actor reportedly died on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at a hospital in the Badore area of Lagos State. The name of the hospital has not been made public.

News of his death was announced by actress and filmmaker Nkechi Blessing, who had recently cast Nwoks in the lead role of her new movie.

In an emotional video shared on Instagram, Nkechi, who appeared to be at the hospital, announced that the scheduled release of the movie would no longer go ahead following the actor’s death.

“It took me a lot to do this video because we won’t be dropping the movie again by 5 pm,” she said, adding that she had just lost CJay.

The actress did not disclose details about the actor’s hospitalisation or the circumstances leading to his death.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of death had not been disclosed. There was also no official statement from his family or representatives confirming further details about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The actor’s death has also disrupted plans for the release of Nkechi Blessing’s latest film, in which he played the lead role. It remains unclear whether the project will eventually be released in his memory.
