PDP Faction Rejects Tinubu’s Re-Election, Accuses Wike of Working for APC
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected calls for opposition candidates to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, accusing Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of advancing the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The faction, through its National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said genuine PDP members would not support the APC-led Federal Government or its policies.
The position was contained in a statement titled “PDP Will Not Support Tinubu’s Re-Election,” dated October 20, 2026, in response to reports credited to Wike urging PDP candidates to collapse their political structures in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Ememobong argued that Wike’s message was directed at individuals who, despite belonging to the opposition, were allegedly working in the interest of the ruling party.
He maintained that the primary responsibility of opposition parties was to provide Nigerians with an alternative to the incumbent government rather than support its political ambitions.
According to him, any proposed alliance among opposition parties should be aimed at challenging the ruling party, not strengthening it.
The PDP faction also criticised the proposed “rainbow coalition,” describing it as a threat to electoral democracy and warning that such political arrangements could undermine genuine electoral competition.
The statement urged loyal PDP members to remain committed to the party while awaiting the Court of Appeal’s judgment in the ongoing leadership dispute.
Ememobong disclosed that the faction’s case had been heard by the appellate court, expressing optimism that the judgment would restore the party to what it considers its legitimate leadership.
He also called on the judiciary to deliver justice without undue delay, noting that prolonged legal disputes could deepen uncertainty within the party.
The faction further warned Nigerians against what it described as elite accommodation and state capture disguised as broad-based political collaboration.
It urged voters to use the 2027 general election to reject political actors it accused of promoting policies and arrangements contrary to the interests of Nigerians.
