Tinubu Inducts Five New NAF Helicopters To Strengthen Security Operations
President Bola Tinubu has inducted five new helicopters into the operational fleet of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as part of efforts to modernise the military and strengthen its capacity to combat insecurity across the country.
The helicopters comprise two Airbus H125s and three Leonardo AW109 Trekkers, expected to enhance the Air Force’s operational readiness, surveillance capabilities and response to emerging security threats.
Tinubu formally inducted the aircraft and inaugurated new hangars at the Presidential Air Fleet facility, marking another step in the Federal Government’s efforts to upgrade military aviation infrastructure and improve air operations.
The three Leonardo AW109 Trekker helicopters are part of a larger order of 10 aircraft, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026.
The latest additions are expected to support the Nigerian Air Force’s ongoing operations against insurgency, banditry and other security challenges confronting the country.
The induction comes amid continued demands for improved military equipment, intelligence gathering and rapid deployment capabilities to address threats across Nigeria’s various security theatres.
With the delivery of the helicopters and the expansion of aviation infrastructure, the government is seeking to strengthen the Air Force’s ability to provide effective air support for ground troops and respond more efficiently to evolving security situations.
However, the effectiveness of the new aircraft will depend on their deployment, maintenance, availability of trained personnel and integration into ongoing military operations.
The development underscores the importance of sustained investment in military modernisation as Nigeria continues to confront complex security challenges.
