Nigeria Moves to Strengthen Support for Over 300 Students at Hungary University
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Abasi Braimah, has pledged improved welfare support for Nigerian students at the University of Pécs, following an engagement with the leadership of the institution’s Nigerian Students’ Union in Budapest.
Braimah gave the assurance when he received the newly elected executives of the union at the Nigerian Embassy on Friday, October 30, 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the student leaders to formally introduce their new administration, discuss challenges confronting Nigerian students and explore areas of collaboration with the Embassy.
The University of Pécs, one of Hungary’s oldest universities with a history spanning more than 200 years, has a Nigerian student population of over 300.
During the interaction, the delegation raised concerns affecting students and highlighted areas where diplomatic intervention and support from the Embassy could improve their experience in Hungary.
Responding, Braimah assured the students that the Embassy remained available to assist them and contribute positively to their stay in the country.
He encouraged the union’s leadership to present ideas and practical suggestions that could strengthen engagement between the Nigerian student community and the diplomatic mission.
The Ambassador also expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and disclosed that the Embassy would undertake a working visit to the University of Pécs.
The planned visit is expected to provide an opportunity for direct engagement with Nigerian students and further discussions on issues affecting their welfare.
The engagement highlights the role of Nigerian diplomatic missions in maintaining contact with citizens abroad, particularly students, and facilitating stronger institutional relationships with host-country universities.
