The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have agreed to strengthen collaboration on personnel management and address challenges affecting career progression within the police system.

The agreement followed a meeting between the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), and the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, alongside members of the police management team, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

A major issue discussed was the proposed review of the Police Scheme of Service, particularly concerns surrounding the Inspectorate cadre, rank structure and opportunities for career advancement.

The discussions also focused on ensuring a balanced rank structure and promoting a personnel management system driven by merit, competence, performance and capacity development.

Argungu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working with the police leadership to address the issues raised, assuring the delegation that matters requiring the Commission’s intervention would receive appropriate attention.

He stressed the importance of fairness and transparency in personnel administration, noting the need for institutional cooperation to strengthen the police service.

In his remarks, Disu expressed appreciation to the Commission for recognising the contributions and sacrifices of police personnel.

The IGP called for closer engagement between both institutions to improve personnel administration and resolve outstanding concerns, while acknowledging their respective statutory responsibilities.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained cooperation aimed at improving professionalism, strengthening institutional efficiency and enhancing service delivery within the Nigeria Police Force.

The meeting underscores renewed efforts by the two institutions to address structural and administrative concerns affecting police personnel and the overall effectiveness of the force.
