Award-winning R&B icon and the unforgettable voice behind Disney classics Beauty and the Beast and A Whole New World, Peabo Bryson, has died at the age of 75.

Bryson passed away on Tuesday evening surrounded by family and loved ones, according to a statement released by his family. While an official cause of death has not been disclosed, the veteran singer had reportedly suffered a stroke days earlier and was receiving medical treatment.

The acclaimed singer’s death marks the end of a remarkable musical journey that spanned more than five decades and produced some of the most beloved songs in R&B and film history.

“For more than five decades, Peabo’s extraordinary voice served as the soundtrack to some of life’s most cherished moments,” his family said in a statement.

“His music carried generations through joyful celebrations, great love stories and enduring moments of comfort and inspiration, creating a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him and the countless lives he touched through song.”

Bryson rose to international fame through a string of hit songs, including Feel the Fire, I’m So Into You, Can You Stop the Rain, If Ever You’re In My Arms Again, and Reaching for the Sky. However, he became a household name worldwide through his Disney collaborations that captivated millions of fans.

In 1992, Bryson won a Grammy Award for his duet with Canadian superstar Celine Dion on the title track of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. A year later, he secured another Grammy alongside Regina Belle for A Whole New World, the iconic love theme from Disney’s Aladdin.

The two songs became defining soundtracks of a generation and remain among Disney’s most celebrated musical achievements.

Reflecting on his passing, Bryson’s family said, “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”

Despite his health challenges, Bryson remained active in the music industry. He performed alongside fellow R&B star Jeffrey Osborne at a concert in Georgia in May and had been preparing for several performances as part of his “Golden Touch” tour, which was scheduled to celebrate his 50-year career in music.

Just months before his death, Bryson celebrated his 75th birthday with family and friends, sharing moments from the occasion on social media.

Tributes have begun pouring in from fans and fellow musicians across the world, remembering Bryson as one of R&B’s most distinctive voices and a performer whose music transcended generations.
