Ekiti LG Vice-Chairman Regains Freedom After Rescue by Security Operative

The Vice-Chairman of Ekiti West Local Government Area, Honourable Femi Olanipekun, has been rescued by a joint team of security operatives following his abduction along the Ilawe-Ekiti Road.

The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday, May 21, 2026, stating that the vice-chairman was ambushed by armed men while returning from a meeting in Ado-Ekiti.

Shortly after the abduction, combined security forces launched a coordinated search and rescue operation across suspected hideouts and surrounding areas.

Sources familiar with the operation disclosed that security personnel intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering immediately after the incident. The pressure mounted on the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon the victim.

Authorities confirmed that the rescue effort involved collaboration among multiple security agencies, leading to the successful recovery of the council official without loss of life.

The rescued vice-chairman is currently receiving medical attention and is said to be in stable condition following the ordeal.

Security agencies have assured residents of sustained operations to track down those responsible for the abduction and strengthen security across vulnerable communities in Ekiti State.
