FG Moves to Strengthen National Grid as Presidential Adviser Visits NISO

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to improve the stability and efficiency of Nigeria’s electricity supply system, with the Special Adviser to the President on Power, Mr. Lanre Babalola, holding high-level talks with the leadership of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) in Abuja.

The meeting, held at NISO’s Corporate Headquarters on Friday, focused on the performance of the national grid, ongoing reforms in the power sector and strategies to enhance electricity delivery across the country.

 

Leading the NISO team, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, received the presidential adviser and his delegation for discussions aimed at advancing operational excellence within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

During the engagement, both parties examined key issues affecting grid reliability, operational efficiency, transparency and system stability, with a shared commitment to reducing disruptions and improving service delivery.

 

Babalola stressed the need for prudent resource management and stronger operational discipline across the power sector, noting that sustained improvements in grid performance remain central to the Federal Government’s electricity reform agenda.

 

He described NISO as a critical institution in the management of the national grid and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the organisation in fulfilling its mandate.

 

According to him, strengthening the transmission network and reducing system disturbances are essential to building a more resilient and dependable electricity sector capable of supporting Nigeria’s economic growth.

 

Responding, Engr. Mohammed assured the presidential adviser of NISO’s readiness to drive reforms that will improve grid reliability and operational efficiency.
