GRACE IKE HONORED FOR MEDIA LEADERSHIP AT INTERNATIONAL AWARD CEREMONY
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, was celebrated this Saturday as the recipient of the prestigious Excellence in Media Leadership and Advocacy Award. The distinction was conferred by the School of Communications and Media Studies at the Learn To Live Business School UK during its 2025 Post-Graduate Program awards ceremony. The event recognized the achievements of graduands from both Cohort 1 and Cohort 2.

Chief Emeka Mba, former Director General of the National NBC and Chairman of AFIA Television, presented the award. He praised Ike as a trailblazer whose work has significantly influenced national discourse. Mba highlighted her long-standing commitment to advocacy, mentorship, and defending press freedom, establishing her as a major figure within Nigerian media. “This award recognizes Comrade Grace Ike as an outstanding individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in advancing the values of ethical journalism, free expression, and responsible media practice,” Mba stated.
Upon receiving the honor, Comrade Grace Ike expressed that she felt both gratified and humbled. She described the award not merely as an accolade but as a summons to further action. “I am delighted by this recognition from the School of Communications and Media Studies,” she said. “Strategic communication remains central to every sphere of human endeavour and to our national development. We must continue to refine how we tell our stories and how we engage the public.” She reaffirmed her dedication to responsible journalism, vowing to continue efforts that restore public confidence in the media. She also emphasized the media’s vital role as a credible bridge connecting government, institutions, and citizens.
The ceremony, which was attended by media scholars, practitioners, and families, also celebrated numerous graduands, including Mrs. Funmilayo Evelyn Akintola, Gloria Ikiba, Arith, and Yecenu Joyce Sasetu. For these graduates, the event marked the commencement of a new professional phase, armed with enhanced skills in communication strategy and media ethics. The proceedings concluded with the distribution of certificates, an awards presentation, and a networking session among attendees.
