King’s College Concession: FG, Education Unions Suspend Strike, Pause Takeover

The Federal Government and education sector unions in the Ministry of Education have reached a five-point agreement to suspend the ongoing industrial action and temporarily halt the proposed management arrangement for King’s College, Lagos.

The agreement was reached on Wednesday night following a meeting between the Ministers of Education and representatives of the labour unions.

Under the agreement, the unions resolved to immediately suspend the industrial action, bringing to an end the protest by workers over the proposed management of the prestigious Lagos school by its Old Boys Association.

The parties also agreed that no staff member would be victimised or sanctioned for participating in the industrial action.

As part of the resolution, the implementation of the proposed takeover of King’s College by the Old Boys Association has been suspended for two weeks to allow the Federal Government and the unions to undertake further consultations on the matter.

The two-week pause is expected to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to address the concerns raised by workers and reach further understanding on the proposed management arrangement.

The agreement is also expected to restore normal activities within the Ministry of Education while consultations continue on the future management structure of King’s College, Lagos.
