Hallowmace Africa Foundation marked a decade of promoting legislative excellence and democratic accountability with the maiden National Legislative Awards held on July 9, 2026, at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

The event celebrated visionary leadership while honoring lawmakers who have distinguished themselves in lawmaking, oversight, and effective representation.

Delivering his welcome address, the Executive Director and CEO of Hallowmace Foundation, Ambassador Sunny Anderson Osiebe, described the occasion as a historic milestone.

He noted that what began a decade ago as a vision has evolved into one of Africa’s foremost platforms dedicated to advancing democratic governance and parliamentary excellence.

“The recognition bestowed on the awardees is not an end in itself but a call to greater service”, Osiebe stated, explaining that it reflects the confidence reposed in their leadership and challenges them to continue raising the standards of parliamentary excellence.

The awards selected only three lawmakers from each of Nigeria’s six geo-political zones to ensure regional balance, credibility, and transparency.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented at the event by Senator Tony Nwoye, expressed appreciation for the recognition.

“Every award is significant because it reminds us that our efforts have not gone unnoticed, he said, adding that the true measure of leadership is not the number of titles held, but the number of lives positively impacted through service”.

Mrs. Fatima Abbas Tajudeen, Wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, also received an Award of Excellence. “I receive this recognition with deep gratitude and humility”, she stated, adding that it is a reminder that leadership is about the collective efforts of many people working to build a more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.

Osiebe explained that the awards aim to highlight lawmakers who have consistently delivered dividends of democracy despite criticisms often directed at the National Assembly.

He added that the success of the maiden edition may encourage the organisation to make the awards a biennial programme, as legislative performance is better assessed over a longer period.
