Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it targeted a U.S. airbase in retaliation for what it described as an American strike near Bandar Abbas airport, marking another dangerous escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Tehran and Washington.

According to statements carried by Iran’s Tasnim and IRIB state media, the IRGC said the retaliatory strike occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m. local time after U.S. forces allegedly launched aerial projectiles near Bandar Abbas earlier in the morning.

The IRGC did not specify the location of the targeted American airbase but warned that any further “aggression” by the United States would trigger a “more decisive” response.

Iranian officials described the U.S. action near Bandar Abbas as a direct attack on Iranian territory and blamed Washington for any future consequences arising from the escalation.

Earlier, U.S. officials confirmed that American forces carried out fresh strikes against Iranian military targets near the Strait of Hormuz, including a drone ground-control station in Bandar Abbas that was allegedly preparing to launch attack drones.

The U.S. military also said it intercepted and destroyed four Iranian one-way attack drones it considered threats to American troops and commercial shipping in the Gulf region.

Washington has repeatedly described the operations as “defensive” measures intended to protect maritime security and maintain a fragile ceasefire framework.

The exchange of strikes has renewed fears of broader conflict across the Middle East, especially around the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, through which a major portion of global oil supplies pass daily.

Oil prices surged following reports of the latest military actions, as investors worried about possible disruptions to energy shipments and worsening instability in the Gulf.

Meanwhile, diplomatic negotiations between Iran and the United States aimed at preserving a ceasefire and reopening shipping routes remain fragile.

Neither side has yet provided detailed casualty figures or confirmed the extent of the damage from the latest attacks.

Military analysts warn that repeated retaliatory strikes increase the risk of miscalculation and could drag more regional actors into the conflict if tensions continue to escalate.
