Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he has directed the Israeli military to expand its control over approximately 70 percent of the Gaza Strip, marking a major escalation in the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territory.

According to multiple international reports, Netanyahu said the move is part of Israel’s broader strategy to intensify pressure on Hamas and strengthen what Israeli officials describe as “security control” across Gaza. The latest directive reportedly involves widening Israeli military operations and consolidating territorial gains already made during months of fighting.

The development comes amid growing humanitarian concerns and renewed international criticism over the scale of destruction and civilian displacement in Gaza. Reports indicate that large portions of the enclave are already under Israeli military presence or evacuation orders, forcing thousands of Palestinians to flee from their homes once again.

Israeli authorities maintain that the operation is aimed at dismantling Hamas’ military infrastructure and securing the release of hostages taken during the October 7 attacks that triggered the war. Netanyahu has repeatedly stated that Israel intends to eliminate Hamas and prevent future attacks on Israeli territory.

However, critics and humanitarian organizations have warned that expanding Israeli control over such a large portion of Gaza could worsen the humanitarian crisis and further complicate ceasefire negotiations. International rights groups have also expressed fears over possible long-term occupation and mass displacement of Palestinians.

The announcement has sparked reactions across the international community, with several countries and global organizations urging restraint and calling for renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war.
