Mexico Freezes Accounts, Arrests Politicians in Organized Crime Investigation
Mexican authorities have arrested a municipal president and five other political figures as part of a widening corruption and organized crime investigation in the central state of Morelos, prosecutors confirmed on Wednesday.
Special prosecutor Ulises Lara said the operation led to the detention of the municipal president of Atlatlahucan, alongside several other officials, including the former municipal president of Yecapixtla. Authorities believe the suspects may have links to a corruption network operating within the region.
Earlier in the day, Mexican authorities also announced the freezing of bank accounts belonging to 22 individuals and 10 organizations allegedly connected to the corruption scheme under investigation in Morelos state.

The arrests come amid increasing pressure on the Mexican government to tackle corruption and alleged ties between public officials and organized criminal groups. President Claudia Sheinbaum has recently intensified anti-corruption measures as security concerns continue to grow across parts of the country.
Mexico has faced longstanding challenges involving political corruption, cartel violence, and organized crime infiltration into local governance structures. Analysts say the latest operation signals a broader effort by federal authorities to dismantle networks linking politicians and criminal organizations.
