NDC National Leader Dickson Reaffirms Commitment to Rule of Law, Party Unity Ahead of 2027
The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to due process, internal democracy and the rule of law, despite recent legal challenges affecting its participation in the 2027 general elections.
Dickson made the remarks during an exclusive interview on the Nigeria Right Now programme, where he addressed key legal, political and policy issues confronting the party and the country.
According to a statement signed by the programme’s Anchor and Producer, Dickson Iroegbu, the interview focused on the recent court ruling affecting the NDC, its implications for the party and the leadership’s determination to pursue all available legal avenues while remaining committed to democratic principles.
The former Bayelsa State governor also spoke on the party’s post-primary reconciliation efforts, emphasizing that every genuine stakeholder remains important to the NDC.
He said the party has continued consultations with aggrieved members and other stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Dickson, the reconciliation process is aimed at ensuring unity within the party and positioning it for the forthcoming elections.
On national security, the NDC leader addressed the proposed establishment of state police, aligning himself with the position earlier expressed by the party’s presidential candidate that the initiative should be deferred until after the 2027 general elections.
He argued that preserving national stability and consolidating Nigeria’s democratic institutions should remain the country’s immediate priority before embarking on major constitutional and security reforms.
The interview provided insight into the NDC’s position on current political developments, outlining the party’s strategy for addressing internal challenges while preparing for the 2027 polls.
