Nigerian Army Activates 28 Armoured Brigade In Kebbi, Assures Residents Of Improved Security

The Nigerian Army has operationalised the 28 Armoured Brigade and Garrison in Birnin Kebbi, alongside the 281 Tank Battalion in Yauri and the 381 Artillery Regiment in Kaoje, as part of efforts to strengthen security and protect vulnerable communities in Kebbi State.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, formally operationalised the formations on Monday as part of ongoing efforts to expand the Army’s operational capacity and improve its response to security threats in the North-West.

Representing the COAS, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, said the establishment of the brigade was in line with the Army’s efforts to optimise its force structure, expand its operational footprint and strengthen command and control.

He said the new formation would also improve response times to security challenges across the region, particularly in areas affected by attacks from criminal elements and other threats.

Koughna charged the Acting Commander of 28 Brigade, Colonel Abdullahi Umar, to ensure effective deployment of the formation’s capabilities in support of ongoing operations across the division’s area of responsibility.

He stressed the importance of discipline, tactical focus and cooperation among security agencies in achieving lasting peace, while urging troops to maintain professionalism and strictly adhere to the rules of engagement.

The GOC also directed the troops to protect law-abiding citizens and remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities while carrying out operations across the state.

Koughna expressed sympathy to residents of Jandutse community following the recent death of a resident in a bandit attack and assured the community of increased military presence to strengthen security.

The residents, in turn, commended the GOC for what they described as his continued efforts to improve the safety of communities across Kebbi State.

The Army said the operationalisation of the new formations would further strengthen ongoing security operations and enhance the protection of communities in the state.
