Northern Senators Forum Celebrates New Gumel Emir, Pays Tribute To Predecessor

The Northern Senators Forum has congratulated His Royal Highness, Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, PhD, on his installation as the 17th Emir of Gumel Emirate in Jigawa State, describing his emergence as an opportunity to deepen peace, unity and development in the historic emirate.

The Forum, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, on Friday, also congratulated the Jigawa State Government and the people of the state on the appointment of the new monarch.

It paid tribute to the late Emir of Gumel, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, who died after 45 years on the throne, describing his reign as a period distinguished by service, peace and commitment to the people.

The senators particularly commended the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, for his support and participation in the transition process.

They also praised Senator Babangida Hussaini, Walin Kazaure, for hosting and facilitating the Forum’s delegation during its visit to Gumel on Friday, September 11, 2026.

The Forum further acknowledged the contributions of other senators, traditional rulers, elected representatives and eminent Nigerians who joined the condolence visit and the reception of the new Emir.

It expressed confidence that the new monarch would bring his academic and professional experience to bear on the responsibilities of the throne, noting that his background cuts across mathematics, computing, engineering and cybersecurity.

According to the Forum, the Emir’s PhD in Computer and Communication Systems and his professional experience could provide valuable opportunities for advancing education, youth empowerment, technology, innovation and sustainable development in Gumel Emirate.

The Northern Senators Forum pledged continued prayers, support and constructive engagement with the new Emir, while calling on the people of Gumel Emirate to rally behind him and work collectively for peace, unity and prosperity.

The Forum prayed that Allah would grant the 17th Emir wisdom, good health, strength and divine guidance as he begins his reign.
