Veteran broadcast journalist, Oche Otene, has been honoured with the Media Personality of the Year Award by the Book Society of Nigeria in recognition of his contributions to broadcasting and public-interest journalism.

The award recognises Otene’s more than 15 years of professional experience covering news, current affairs, elections, governance and other issues of public interest.

Reacting to the honour, Otene said, “The reward of hard work is more work,” describing the award as both recognition of his dedication to journalism and motivation to continue contributing to the growth and professional standards of the industry.

Beyond broadcasting, Otene has built a reputation as an event host, moderator and master of ceremonies, anchoring conferences, public forums and professional gatherings. He has also moderated panel discussions involving experts and stakeholders on media, governance, democracy and national development.

Otene had previously received the Best Newscaster of the Year Award at the Nigerian Radio Awards, further adding to his recognition within the Nigerian media industry.

His journalism career has taken him through several media organisations, including Radio Benue, Radio One Lagos, a Radio Nigeria station, Channels Television Lagos, Raypower FM, Nile Radio, Fresh News, OOJ Media and Democracy Radio.

His presenting credits include AIT News Hour, The Electoral Process, an INEC-sponsored programme, Watching the Vote by YIAGA Africa, The Ultimate Morning Show on Raypower Abuja and Leadership Lab on Democracy Radio Abuja.

Through his broadcasting, event-hosting and moderation roles, Otene has consistently engaged audiences on elections, democracy, governance and national development, establishing a career that has spanned multiple platforms and areas of public-interest journalism.
