A fire broke out at a major oil terminal in Russia’s Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk after falling debris from intercepted drones ignited several parts of the facility, regional authorities said on Saturday.

Officials in the Krasnodar region reported that debris from drones struck technical and administrative buildings as well as oil storage infrastructure at the port, triggering multiple fires. Emergency services were deployed to contain the blaze and respond to the aftermath of the overnight incident.

According to the regional operational headquarters, two people were injured while outside during the drone attack and are receiving medical treatment in hospital. Authorities also said the incident occurred during an air defence engagement over the port area, with falling wreckage causing the damage on the ground.

Novorossiysk is one of Russia’s key oil export hubs on the Black Sea, handling large volumes of crude shipments, making the facility strategically important for the country’s energy exports.

Emergency response teams continue to assess the extent of the damage while efforts to fully extinguish the fire are ongoing.
