A Lagos State High Court sitting at Igbosere has fixed June 22, 2026, for judgment in the trial of six persons accused of killing sound engineer, David Imoh, in Lekki.

The defendants: Dahiru Ayuba, Susan Moses, Chigozie Anthony, Christopher Dauda, Joseph Tella, and Sunday Azi, are standing trial over the alleged mob killing of Imoh, who was reportedly lynched and set ablaze in May 2022 following an argument over a N100 transport fare balance with a commercial motorcyclist at NITEL Junction, Lekki Phase 1.

Justice Ibironke Harrison fixed the judgment date after lawyers representing both the prosecution and the defence adopted their final written addresses before the court.

During proceedings, defence counsel urged the court to acquit their clients, arguing that the prosecution failed to establish the charges beyond reasonable doubt. Some of the lawyers also questioned the credibility of the evidence presented, including video footage and witness testimonies.

Counsel to one of the defendants argued that his client was not captured in the video evidence tendered before the court, while another maintained that the police failed to properly investigate an alibi presented during the trial.

However, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Bajide Martins, asked the court to convict the defendants, insisting that the prosecution had sufficiently established their involvement in the attack.

The six defendants were arraigned in October 2022 on a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, and infliction of grievous harm. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The case attracted widespread public outrage after videos of the incident circulated online, sparking renewed conversations around mob justice and insecurity in Lagos.
