The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called for a comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation into the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed.

The Sultan made the call in a statement issued on Sunday, urging security agencies to ensure that everyone found culpable in the murder is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The revered monarch, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of MACBAN, described the late Risku as a courageous advocate of peaceful coexistence and a respected community leader committed to fostering dialogue between herders and farming communities in Benue State.

He said the deceased consistently championed reconciliation and constructive engagement in pursuit of lasting peace, noting that his commitment to conflict resolution earned him widespread respect across different communities.

While mourning the loss, the Sultan commended the Benue State Government and security agencies for their swift response, particularly the arrest of suspects in connection with the killing.

He appealed to residents of Benue State and the general public to remain calm, avoid reprisals and allow the law to take its course.

According to him, no grievance should be allowed to undermine public peace or trigger further violence, stressing that justice can only be achieved through lawful institutions.

“The late Alhaji Ardo Risku dedicated his life to building bridges across communities. The most fitting tribute to his memory is for all of us to uphold the values of peace, restraint, dialogue and mutual respect that he lived and worked for,” the Sultan said.
