Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded a major operational success against suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbi State, recovering heavy-calibre weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other logistics equipment during a clearance operation.

The military disclosed that the operation was conducted on June 14, 2026, around the Dogon Daji area of Dandi Local Government Area, where troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce encounter.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the troops brought overwhelming firepower to bear on the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their camp and flee.

The military said troops subsequently launched an aggressive pursuit along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, leading to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, explosives and other materials left behind by the fleeing insurgents.

Items recovered during the operation included Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launch tubes, several RPG warheads, multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two motorcycles used by the terrorists for movement, battery chargers and other personal belongings.

The statement noted that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation.

“The gallant troops decisively overwhelmed the Lakurawa Terrorist Group and forced them to flee. A follow-on pursuit operation led to the recovery of a large cache of arms, explosives and logistics equipment abandoned by the terrorists,” the statement said.

The Army described the operation as another significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating across the North-West region.

It reaffirmed the commitment of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements and denying them freedom of action.
