TUGGAR HOLDS STRATEGIC TALKS WITH TURKISH COUNTERPART IN ANKARA

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has held high-level bilateral talks with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Ankara, ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s forthcoming State Visit to Türkiye.

The meeting, which took place on Monday, marked Tuggar’s first official visit to Türkiye and focused on strengthening political, economic, security, and multilateral cooperation between both countries.

During the discussions, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan commended Nigeria for its constructive role in promoting regional stability, peace, and prosperity in West Africa.

He acknowledged Nigeria’s leadership within regional and continental frameworks and its contributions to collective security and development initiatives.

Ambassador Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to expanding bilateral trade and boosting mutual investment, particularly in key sectors attractive to Turkish businesses, including construction, manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure.

Both ministers noted the steady growth in economic relations between Nigeria and Türkiye and stressed the need to unlock further potential through structured public–private sector engagement.

On security cooperation, the two sides identified opportunities to deepen collaboration in military affairs and the defence industry, reflecting shared interests in enhancing strategic and institutional partnerships.

The visit underscores the growing strategic character of Nigeria–Türkiye relations, anchored on shared positions regarding sovereignty, institutional cooperation, and pragmatic engagement.

Both countries expressed confidence in the prospects for deeper bilateral cooperation in the period ahead.
