U.S. Vice President JD Vance has sought to calm growing concerns over the ongoing military confrontation with Iran, stating during a White House briefing that the conflict “won’t be forever” and that the United States is not committed to an open-ended war.

Speaking in Washington, Vance emphasized that while tensions remain high and diplomatic negotiations are ongoing, the administration’s objective is not prolonged warfare but a controlled and time-limited engagement tied to specific security goals.

“This is not a forever war,” Vance said, underscoring the White House position that military pressure is being used alongside diplomacy to push Iran toward a nuclear agreement and de-escalation.

The remarks come amid rising international anxiety over the conflict’s duration and economic consequences, including disruptions in global energy markets and heightened instability in the Middle East. According to recent briefings and reports, U.S. officials have repeatedly insisted that Washington prefers a negotiated settlement but remains prepared to continue military operations if necessary.

President Donald Trump has also indicated that while the U.S. is pursuing diplomatic options, military action has not been ruled out if talks collapse, reflecting a dual-track strategy of pressure and negotiation.

Vance’s comments are seen as part of a broader effort by the administration to reassure domestic and international audiences that the conflict will not escalate into a prolonged Iraq-style war, even as tensions with Tehran remain unresolved.

Analysts say the messaging reflects growing political sensitivity in Washington, where public support for extended foreign military engagements remains limited.
