Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has announced a substantial resettlement package of five hundred thousand Naira for each Nigerian refugee willing to return home from Cameroon. The governor made the declaration during a visit to the Minawao Refugee Camp in Cameroon’s Far North region, addressing thousands displaced by Boko Haram violence.

Governor Zulum assured the refugees of significantly improved security across Borno State, crediting enhanced military operations and community-led safety initiatives. “There has been notable improvement in security, especially in the Gwoza area,” Zulum stated, directly appealing to those who fled the insurgency.

He emphasized the state government’s commitment to the welfare of all affected citizens. “The welfare of refugees, internally displaced persons, and returnees remains a top priority for our administration,” the governor told the camp residents.

The financial incentive is designed to encourage voluntary and safe returns to their homeland. The governor’s announcement reinforces the state’s preparedness to support the resettlement of its citizens as security conditions continue to improve.
