Edo Tops Table as Niger Delta Games Close in Benin

Hosts Edo State have opened a commanding lead on the medals table as the 2026 Niger Delta Games enter their final day in Benin City.

 

Team Edo has amassed 102 medals: 50 gold, 30 silver, and 22 bronze, putting them firmly ahead of their closest rivals.

 

Delta State sit in second place with 91 medals (34 gold, 26 silver and 31 bronze), while defending champions Bayelsa State, who won the maiden edition in Uyo last year, occupy third position with 66 medals (23 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze).

 

Akwa Ibom State is fourth with 47 medals, followed by Abia State in fifth place with 41 medals. Cross River State holds sixth position with 35 medals, while Rivers State is seventh with 41 medals.

 

Ondo State is eighth with 32 medals, and Imo State remains bottom of the table with 29 medals.

 

Although a few final events, including: scrabble, football, and relay races, are scheduled for today, the overall standings are unlikely to change significantly.

 

The second edition of the Niger Delta Games, which began on February 19, will conclude this evening with a closing ceremony at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium from 5pm.
