Operations at the Lagos office of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) were disrupted on Wednesday after union members barricaded the agency’s premises in Isolo.

Members of the National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees blocked the entrance and exit gates, preventing staff from accessing the facility in protest against the continued enforcement of the ban on alcoholic beverages sold in sachets and PET bottles below 200 millilitres.

The union is demanding the immediate unsealing of affected factories and production lines, warning that strict enforcement could lead to significant economic losses across the sector.

The protesters claimed that directives from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Office of the National Security Adviser had called for a suspension of the ban. However, NAFDAC has maintained that it has not received any official instruction to halt enforcement.

Police officers were later deployed to the premises. The barricade was eventually lifted, allowing staff to regain access and resume work.
