The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced additional trips on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), effective Friday, March 6, 2026, following sustained growth in passenger traffic along the route.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the Corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the revised timetable is aimed at offering commuters more travel options, improving operational flexibility, and enhancing service delivery on one of Nigeria’s busiest rail corridors.

Unyimadu recalled that operations on the Abuja–Kaduna route were significantly impacted by the March 28, 2022 bomb attack and the August 26, 2025 train derailment. The incidents reduced available rolling stock from three train sets to one and led to temporary speed restrictions for safety reasons. As a result, daily trips were cut back.

He noted that with operational stability restored and passenger demand steadily rising, the Corporation has now expanded services. Some of the earlier speed restrictions have also been relaxed.

Revised Timetable

Under the new schedule:

Tuesdays and Thursdays:

Departure from Idu – 8:45 a.m.

Return from Rigasa – 2:30 p.m.

Fridays and Sundays:

Departures from Idu – 7:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.

Departure from Rigasa – 11:30 a.m.

Saturdays and Mondays:

Departures from Rigasa – 7:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Departure from Idu – 11:00 a.m.

All services will make scheduled stops at Kubwa.

The NRC urged passengers to familiarise themselves with the updated timetable and plan their journeys accordingly. The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to improving capacity, reliability, safety, and overall passenger experience across its rail network.
