The newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has removed the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, barely 24 hours after assuming office.

Hundeyin, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was relieved of the position on Thursday, March 5, 2026, according to reports citing sources within the Nigeria Police Force headquarters.

The development comes amid ongoing internal restructuring within the police hierarchy following Disu’s inauguration as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Disu was appointed last week after the removal of the former police chief, Kayode Egbetokun, who had served as IGP since 2023.

A senior source at the police headquarters reportedly confirmed the development, stating that the Force Public Relations Officer had been removed earlier in the day as part of the ongoing changes within the force.

However, it remains unclear who will take over the role as the next spokesperson of the police.

Hundeyin had assumed the position about six months ago during the tenure of Egbetokun. During his career, he served as Police Public Relations Officer at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.

An alumnus of Lagos State University, Hundeyin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

He also obtained a certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre in Jaji, Kaduna.

In addition, Hundeyin has participated in international peacekeeping operations, including the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur in 2020.
