A powerful storm system has battered large parts of the United States with heavy snow, strong winds, and the threat of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, disrupting travel and putting millions of residents on alert.

The massive weather system began sweeping across the country over the weekend, bringing blizzard conditions to parts of the Upper Midwest while forecasters warned that severe storms could develop across the eastern United States later on Sunday and into Monday.

In states such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, heavy snowfall and powerful winds created hazardous travel conditions. Some areas were forecast to receive more than two feet of snow, forcing flight cancellations and delays at major airports, including those in Chicago and Minneapolis.

Across the Great Lakes region, storm-related damage left more than 210,000 customers without electricity as crews worked to restore power. Officials urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors as the storm continued to move eastward.

Meteorologists warned that the system could intensify as it spread across the central and eastern parts of the country, bringing the risk of severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes. Areas from South Carolina through the Mid-Atlantic region, including cities such as Raleigh, Richmond, and Washington, D.C., were expected to face the highest threat.

Meanwhile, strong winds linked to the storm also fueled wildfires in parts of Nebraska, where emergency responders and the National Guard were deployed to assist with containment efforts.

Authorities and weather agencies have advised residents in affected regions to monitor weather alerts closely and prepare for rapidly changing conditions as the multi-hazard storm continues to impact large portions of the United States.
