Yemen’s Houthis Claim Missile Strike on Israel Amid Rising Tensions

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for launching a missile toward Israel, marking its first such attack since the outbreak of the ongoing Middle East conflict triggered by the Israel–Hamas War.

According to statements released by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the group fired a ballistic missile targeting what it described as “strategic locations” in Israel. The attack, they said, was carried out in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid continued Israeli military operations.

Israeli authorities confirmed that a missile was detected and intercepted by its air defence systems before it could cause damage. The Israel Defence Forces noted that sirens were activated in several areas as a precaution, but no casualties or significant damage were reported.

The Houthis, who control large parts of northern Yemen, have previously threatened to expand the conflict beyond Gaza, warning they would target Israeli-linked interests in the region. Analysts say this latest move underscores growing fears of a broader regional escalation involving multiple Iran-backed groups.

The United States and its allies have repeatedly warned against further escalation, particularly in strategic waterways such as the Red Sea, where Houthi activities have already disrupted international shipping routes in recent months.

Regional observers note that while this strike appears to have been thwarted, it signals a potential widening of hostilities, raising concerns about increased instability across the Middle East.
