DESOPADEC Targets Youths in Warri North with Anti-“School Is Scam” Campaign
The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission has intensified its grassroots sensitisation drive with the expansion of its “School Is Not Scam” campaign to Warri North, targeting students with messages on education, discipline, and social responsibility.
The outreach, held at Iwere College in Koko, is part of the commission’s ongoing monthly enlightenment programme aimed at countering the growing narrative among youths that formal education is no longer valuable.
Speaking during the event, school authorities commended DESOPADEC’s leadership for what they described as a timely intervention, stressing that education remains critical for personal development and societal progress.
Officials of the commission used the platform to urge students to reject the “school is scam” mindset, emphasizing that education is a foundation for opportunity and long-term success. They also highlighted the importance of making informed life choices and staying focused on academic pursuits.
Beyond education advocacy, the campaign also addressed pressing social issues affecting young people, including drug abuse and cultism. Resource persons warned students about the dangers of negative peer influence and the long-term consequences of engaging in harmful activities.
A major highlight of the programme was a debate session involving students from various schools, where participants challenged the notion that education is a scam and argued in favour of its value in nation-building and individual growth.
The initiative aligns with the development agenda of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, with DESOPADEC reaffirming its commitment to engaging youths across oil-producing communities and addressing social vices through education and awareness campaigns.
