The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly rejected the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on a recent Court of Appeal ruling, accusing the electoral body of acting under pressure from the federal government.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described INEC’s interpretation of the judgment as contradictory and inconsistent with facts.

The ADC alleged that the commission’s stance reflects a broader attempt by the government to weaken opposition parties and impose a one-party system in Nigeria. It claimed that INEC had “caved to pressure” and taken sides against the Nigerian people.

“We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling. We knew that INEC was being pressured by a government that has become jittery from the ADC’s rising momentum,” the statement read.

The party further maintained that INEC’s explanation contains inconsistencies that contradict both facts and logic, adding that it would soon make public clarifications on the issues raised.

While expressing dissatisfaction with the electoral body’s position, the ADC said it is currently reviewing its options and will announce its next line of action in due course.

The party also called on its members and supporters to remain calm and resolute as the situation develops, insisting that it remains committed to its political objectives.
